Abstract

This literature review examines the application of Hindu religious values, particularly those found in the ancient text Manusmriti (Manawa Dharmasastra), to enhance the sense of responsibility among elementary school students. Manusmriti serves as a primary source of Hindu ethics (Susila) and duty (Dharma), providing a moral and philosophical foundation for education. This study employs a Systematic Critical Literature Review (SCL) to synthesize contemporary pedagogical models and bridge the gap between abstract moral teachings and the practical development of character in young learners. The methodology involves critically analyzing academic sources to identify how key principles such as Tri Kaya Parisudha from Manawa Dharmasastra and the broader concept of Dharma can be translated into age-appropriate responsibilities for students. The analysis shows that integrating Manusmriti’s ethical guidance (Dharma/Susila) through practical and action-based approaches such as Dharma Carita can effectively foster a sense of responsibility in students. The proposed framework positions the fulfillment of Dharma as outlined in the Smrti texts as a direct embodiment of responsibility. This contribution provides Hindu Religious Education (PAH) educators with a structured model for using authoritative scriptural sources to systematically cultivate moral character at the foundational level of education.
