Parenting is the method and efforts done by parents in an effort to educate and guide their children to be independent. It has various patterns, where each can produce different characters for children. This research discusses the role of parenting in shaping the character of children - along with the supporting factors, barriers and challenges - in Saren, Pagesangan Barat. It uses a qualitative descriptive method; where the first concept is parenting patterns, and the second is the shaping of the character of children. Furthermore, this research also uses humanistic and convergence theories. The results indicate that the role of parenting patterns in shaping the character of children in Saren, Kelurahan Pagesangan Barat, is very important. The parenting styles and patterns used by the parents in the aforementioned location are: 1). Authoritarian parenting; 2). Permissive parenting; and 3). Democratic parenting. The child grows up to be the character of children to be responsible, honest, discipline, stubborn (difficult to be 'educated'), spoiled, diligent, and obedient. The supporting factors shaped the character of children are: 1). the parenting style of the parents; and 2). Environmental factors. Finally, the obstacles and challenges that are faced by the parents are: 1). Unstable economy; 2). the character of the children is hard to be understood; 3). Social environment; 4). Technological developments; and 5). Lack of communication between the parents and their children.
